The Grapevine (7/1/22): AEW Trying New Commentary Setup, Santana Seemingly Looking to Leave

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

AEW experimenting with new commentary setup

AEW is reportedly experimenting with a new setup in their commentary team, in which Jim Ross will be moved to the second hour of Dynamite and the whole of Rampage. It is not known for how long this experiment will last, or whether it was only for this week's TV episodes. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: There's a huge change in quality when Excalibur is tasked to helm the commentary, and it might just be better to trot out JR for special events to satisfy those who still want to listen to him. Otherwise, limiting his appearances is a much better idea.

Santana seemingly unhappy with tag team and AEW

Santana is seemingly not happy with AEW, with some possible issues with his tag team partner Ortiz. His contract is set to expire in September, and he has been cryptically counting down. He has also been taking independent bookings on his own. (Source: WrestlingNews.co)

We say: The early batch of AEW wrestlers is slowly unraveling as the company hurtles toward a new era. We don't want to speculate too much into personal issues, but let's see how this one plays out.
