The Grapevine (5/9/22): Changes Seemingly Made to Money in the Bank, Charlotte Flair Update

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

Changes seemingly made to Money in the Bank contract

The Money in the Bank contract will seemingly now be for a WrestleMania main event spot. The commercial for the PLE which aired earlier today on WrestleMania Backlash implied that participants of the Money in the Bank ladder matches would be competing for a chance to main event WrestleMania, which may be in line with Money in the Bank's now elevated status as a major event. While details are definitely not ironed out yet, this will affect the potential storyline outcome of the Royal Rumble matches.

We say: This is an interesting change that would essentially make the Money in the Bank concept more similar to the G1 Climax, which was in itself originally closer to the idea of the Royal Rumble concept. While the Money in the Bank briefcase/contract has been proven to be transferable in the past, it essentially takes away a big part of why the Royal Rumble matches are highly anticipated, in that it would determine the actual main event of WrestleMania. It's still too early to tell now as we're basing this off of wording in a commercial, but it's also worth noting that when companies—not just WWE—say something like this, people should pay attention because it's almost always what they mean to do.

    Backstage news on Charlotte Flair

Charlotte Flair apparently lost the I Quit match for the SmackDown Women's Championship to Ronda Rousey on WrestleMania Backlash to take time off TV. Flair and fiance Andrade El Idolo are set to be married soon, which may explain this time off. (Source: Bryan Alvarez)

We say: This will be good for Charlotte, whom crowds are generally tired of at this point, plus she could use a break.
