The Grapevine (5/18/22): What We Know About Sasha Banks and Naomi's Walkout, Madcap Moss To Possibly Get Makeover

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

What happened with Sasha Banks and Naomi

Sasha Banks and Naomi's walkout from yesterday's RAW event was all Banks, as she had reportedly been frustrated with the creative decision surrounding the Six Pack Challenge for the opportunity at the RAW Women's Championship at Hell in a Cell. The match supposedly called for Naomi to pin Banks to win the shot, and Banks to get a shot at Ronda Rousey's SmackDown Women's Championship, and eventually both would lose to the champions at the premium live event. Banks did not agree with that as it would mean their championships would be downplayed during the build.

Vince McMahon is obviously not happy about what happened as the company quickly antagonized the pair on both social media and on the show itself, acknowledging it on air. The company in its statement had framed the issue as Banks and Naomi refusing to work with fellow wrestlers in the match, which is apparently not true.

The issues both women had with WWE apparently go back months, as they were promised "big feuds" for WrestleMania before being put into a tag team and booked to win the Women's Tag Team Championship. Banks had reportedly unfollowed WWE accounts on social media a few days prior.

There is apparently very little sympathy and support backstage for the pair, as many felt they threw away prime spots on the next big event, which would have led to a nice payday. (Source: PWInsider, @Adidas_Head88 on Twitter, Wade Keller)

We say: We feel Sasha and Naomi are in the right here. WWE clearly doesn't have any good ideas, and once again they show that they're far more willing to sacrifice the Women's Tag Team Championship—and the women's tag division—because they have a lack of depth in both women's divisions. It's quite evil for Vince to try and damage-control his way into blaming Sasha and Naomi for essentially standing up for themselves, and the unempathetic roster backstage has been swallowed by the system for being okay with the company's terrible creative. At the end of the day, though, WWE could afford to lose Sasha and Naomi if it ever came to that, and nothing would change if the wrestlers don't work together.

    Madcap Moss may get makeover

Madcap Moss being attacked by Happy Corbin last Friday on SmackDown may have been a way to give him a makeover. There had been talks of dropping the comedy aspects and giving him new gear and music. (Source: WrestlingNews.co)

We say: This is only for the better. Moss had been getting over with his wrestling and it's time for the paint to match the engine.
