The Grapevine (3/4/22): WWE Was Also Interested In Buying ROH, Cody Rhodes-WWE Update

    Tony Khan

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

WWE was also interested in buying ROH

In the wake of AEW president Tony Khan buying Ring of Honor, it turns out that WWE had also been in talks to try and acquire the company, but those fell through. There are still no final concrete plans yet for what the new ROH will look like under Khan, but apparently people from the company were still working on the TV show and live events when the deal was signed. We say: So the news is very huge indeed, but until TK lays out everything he has planned for the brand, we can't truly judge it for what it is just yet. We just hope he maintains people's jobs.

Cody Rhodes's talks with WWE have reportedly fizzled

Cody Rhodes's negotiations with WWE have reportedly "fizzled out." There was heavy speculation on him rejoining WWE in time to get a push for WrestleMania, but the word is that it seems to have fallen through now. However, a conflicting report from Dave Meltzer states that the talks are still on track. (Source: Bodyslam.net, Dave Meltzer)

We say: This now depends on which rumor source you're going to believe now. We will say, though, that the clock is slowly ticking down for WrestleMania, and if you don't debut Cody now, he's not going to make it in time for the big show.
