2K Showcases have been hit-or-miss for me. On one hand, I enjoy the unlockables and nostalgic moments they bring, but sometimes they do feel like a chore to play. And truth be told, who needs five versions of the same character with nearly the same look at moveset (I'm looking at you WWE 2K19 and your Daniel Bryan Showcase). Though in some cases, they do seem to work—my favorite one being the WWE 2K16 Steve Austin 3:16 Showcase.
This year, we're getting the legendary Rey Mysterio's journey. It's been said that the Showcase will span his 20-year career so expect to see some interesting Superstars show up—especially since these modes sometimes seem to hide some secrets within them. With the official roster recently being announced, it's surprising that we missed out on a lot of Mysterio's moments as well. There's no Rob Van Dam. There's no CM Punk—although this one is pretty obvious. Although something shown in the trailer did catch my eye—Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero from WCW Halloween Havoc 1997. I do hope the matches contained within are still noteworthy and will yield new arenas and characters.
Meanwhile, 2K completely revamped the old MyCareer mode and evolved it into MyRise. While the initial announcement of having different male and female careers already made me happy, I was more ecstatic to hear that we might be getting branching storylines again. Those who've played WWF No Mercy from way back will surely love this new feature. Apart from that, it has been said that the paths and stories will change depending on what our character's background is. I know The Migz will surely start from the "Actor" path though others can also choose from MMA, Indie, and Pro Athlete.
From the way it looks, we'll probably spend a lot of time on MyRise—apart from the usual MyGM and Universe plans. We haven't heard much about MyFaction yet so that's still up in the air—although I do love the MyTeam mode from other 2K Sports games. It's less than a week until we can play WWE 2K22 and with two years away from new content, I sincerely hope and believe that WWE 2K22 will be a breath of fresh air and a step in the right direction.
