The Grapevine (1/24/22): Possible Spoilers On Men's Royal Rumble Surprises, Iinspiration Declined Women's Royal Rumble Appearance, AEW Contract News

    GUNTHER and Roderick Strong

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

Potential surprises for the men's Royal Rumble match

NXT Champion Bron Breakker and GUNTHER are reportedly being flown out to St. Louis, where this year's Royal Rumble premium live event is being held. They are not confirmed to be in the men's Royal Rumble match, but they will likely be there in case they are needed. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: Interesting that these are the NXT names being considered for the match, and not Tommaso Ciampa and/or Pete Dunne.

The Iinspiration offered spots in the women's Royal Rumble match

Former WWE Women's Tag Team Champions The Iinspiration were reportedly offered spots to be in this year's women's Royal Rumble match. The pair apparently declined, saying that they are happy where they are now and it isn't time to make a return yet. (Source: Fightful Select)

We say: Now that there's a severe lack of women in the main roster, WWE must look pretty silly letting all those people go. If we were The Iinspiration, we wouldn't debase ourselves by going back to the ex that dumped us, though we'd respect their choice no matter what it would have been.

AEW looking to not renew multiple contracts this year

AEW will apparently not be renewing a number of contracts this year. Lio Rush, Peter Avalon, and Brian Cage are some of the names whose current deals are expiring, and it seems like there will be more on the way. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: Looks like it's business as usual for AEW, who aren't exempt from the pitfalls of running a company. That said, even with these deals expiring, there's still a lot of depth on the roster to go around, and Tony Khan will continue to add more must-see free agents. Lio Rush getting cut after the controversy involving Big Swole isn't a good look, however, but we don't expect that to seriously damage TK's reputation.
