The Official Smark Henry Predictions: WWE SummerSlam 2021

Ah, shit, here we go again. It’s SummerSlam, WWE’s first big PPV from the post-ThunderDome Era. And with a stacked card to back it up, it’s hard not to speculate on the outcomes. So we here at the Smark Henry offices will once again pit our main roster reviewers against each other to see who can get the most predictions right. Time to unlock their cages!

In the red corner is the rookie
RAW reviewer and the only person we know who can actually survive watching the show; it’s Kim Antonio (@KDant36)! And in the blue corner is Smark Henry’s resident SmackDown reviewer, the Standard, the Blueprint, the Man We Can’t Get Rid Of, it’s Ricky Publico (@nyamnyamgarbage)!

So who you got for the Biggest Party of the Summer? Let’s start predicting!

WWE Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) (w/ Paul Heyman) vs. John Cena

Kim: I think Roman Reigns will retain the Universal Championship by submission. I don’t think it will be a pinfall win because John Cena knows his offensive style by heart in kayfabe. WWE probably wants to give number 17 to John eventually, but not while Roman is white-hot and John is only a part-timer.

Ricky: It's Roman Reigns, no question. Aside from the fact that I want him to win and keep his streak going, Cena's not here for the long haul, people. He's
Hollywood now! He still has to shoot his Peacemaker series, and he probably has a bunch of projects waiting in his schedule. Besides, reign #17 can wait, especially while there's a better champion still enjoying the ride. Leave the glory to the full-timers.

WWE Championship Match: Bobby Lashley (c) (w/ MVP) vs. Goldberg

Kim: This is the hardest one to predict, in my opinion. Goldberg has a high chance of winning now that crowds are back. Rumor has it WWE plans to go back to Saudi Arabia this year, which increases his odds. There’s also the Goldberg dream match that Big E wants against his childhood favorite. However, I think Bobby Lashley will walk away as WWE Champion, just like Drew McIntyre did at the Royal Rumble, probably by pinfall.

Ricky: If WWE knows what's good for them, they will let Bobby Lashley retain his freaking title because of course he has to. Oldberg's just here to pad the SummerSlam card anyway and he already re-introduced his big-ass son as a future big star. He doesn't need another world title run! So I really hope he just does the job of making Lashley look like a million bucks. I want to stop talking about Oldberg now, thank you.

SmackDown Women’s Championship Match: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Sasha Banks

Kim: I’ll go with Sasha Banks by submission because they’ve been teasing it so much. Plus it sets up a rubber match between the two. It would be cool if Bianca Belair taps out to the Banks Statement with her braid in her mouth like on SmackDown.

Ricky: Nah, this has to go to Bianca Belair. As cool as that visual was, I don't see the champion dropping the title anytime soon. C'mon, do you really want to see Sasha Banks play hot potato with a championship again? Let's just give Bianca Belair back-to-back victories until she becomes a household name so they can finally stop treating her like a clueless rookie.

    Edge vs. Seth Rollins

Kim: This one’s hard to predict but I’ll go with Seth Rollins winning by pinfall. I feel Edge will put him over this time. The real question is: will Edge kick out after one Curb Stomp?

Ricky: It's not like either man is a rising star whose winning streak needs to be kept intact, so either of them could take this one. So can I just say this match will end in a double count-out? I mean, this is a blood feud, after all. It can't just end after one PPV match. But then again, can Edge even compete in more dangerous stipulation matches? So you know what, I'll just give this one to Edge. He already took massive L's at WrestleMania and Money in the Bank. He has to win at some point.

Triple Threat Match for the RAW Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Nikki A.S.H. (c)

Kim: I think Nikki A.S.H. will retain the RAW Women’s Championship by pinfall. I know, I know. This looks like a totally bonkers pick. I’ll probably regret this in hindsight if she loses. However, the RAW Creative team did a good job with booking her in that No Holds Barred match several weeks ago. In my opinion, it gave her reign legitimacy, and Vince probably likes her reign enough now to have it last past SummerSlam.

Ricky: My pick is Nikki A.S.H. as well because there's literally no other reason to give it to either of the other contenders. Sure, Charlotte Flair could become champion again, but where's the fun in that? And sure, Rhea Ripley could regain the title, but what else would she do with it? They already ruined her as a character. Why exactly should we root for her again? So yeah, no choice: Nikki A.S.H. all the way.

RAW Tag Team Championship Match: Omos and AJ Styles (c) vs. RK-Bro

Kim: I predict RK-Bro will win the RAW Tag Team Championships by pinfall after all the build-up. It feels like a guarantee after Omos’s undefeated streak ended with a DQ this past week on RAW.

Ricky: I'm pretty sure they're going to milk this rivalry for at least three PPVs. I see AJ Styles and Omos retaining their titles because of some wacky miscommunication between the challengers. C'mon, where's the fun in letting RK-Bro win something on their first try?

    Drew McIntyre vs. Jinder Mahal

Kim: With Veer and Shanky banned from ringside, this is a lock for Drew McIntyre. I predict a pinfall victory after a Claymore. I also think this won’t be the last PPV match between the two anytime soon.

Ricky: I'm picking Jinder Mahal just for the lulz. Please, please let Jinder Mahal win this one. At least let him get the DQ win after Drew stabs him with his sword because Drew is that dumb. Brandishing a sword in a wrestling ring doesn't make you look cool, Drew. You just look dumb. Please, please let Jinder Mahal win.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: Rey and Dominik Mysterio vs. The Usos (c)

Kim: There’s a large chance that Vince McMahon wants The Mysterios to finally get that big win in front of a PPV crowd. However, I still think The Usos will retain the SmackDown Tag Team Championship by pinfall.

Ricky: Yes, let's keep all the gold on the Bloodline's shoulders. As much as I love Rey and Dominik, I think this is the match that will strain their relationship further. They've been teasing it for weeks anyway. They'll probably pull the trigger at SummerSlam after losing to The Usos due to some disagreement or miscommunication.

WWE United States Championship Match: Sheamus (c) vs. Damian Priest

Kim: Damian Priest will become the new WWE United States Champion by pinfall, hands down. Sheamus’ reign has been plagued by injury, so I don’t think they’ll keep the strap on him. There’s also the rumor that Keith Lee was originally supposed to win the title instead of Sheamus back at WrestleMania 37.

Ricky: Bruh, I didn't even know Damian Priest has a United States Championship match at SummerSlam. Why does he keep bothering The Miz and John Morrison, then? Man, this is why I stopped reviewing RAW. Whatever, I'm picking Sheamus just because.

Alexa Bliss (w/ Lilly) vs. Eva Marie (w/ Doudrop)

Kim: I can totally see them giving Eva Marie the win here since a) The Fiend got released and b) she has been a nuclear heat generator with the live crowd. On the other hand, the next PPV will take place in Alexa Bliss’ hometown so they might give her the win to keep her as a likely title contender. Yeah, I’ll go with Alexa Bliss winning by pinfall. The real question is whether or not Eva Marie actually takes it.

Ricky: Another case in point as to why I avoided RAW like the plague. Is anyone even worth rooting for between these two? I doubt they made this heel vs. heel rivalry work. So whatever, I'm picking Eva Marie just to be contradictory.

That does it for Smark Henry’s SummerSlam predictions. Do you agree with your favorite reviewer? Do you even have a favorite reviewer? What about you? Who are your picks for SummerSlam? Let your voices be heard, and let’s compare notes on Monday (Manila Time).

Kim Antonio (@KDant36) is a contributor to Smark Henry and a lifelong fan of professional wrestling. He was first exposed to wrestling as a small child when his older cousin would practice finishers on him, which led him to hate wrestling. Later, he saw it on TV and was hooked ever since. He dreams of being a wrestling booker after watching Ready to Rumble and playing GM Mode on SmackDown vs. RAW. He hopes fellow fans will learn someday that there's nothing wrong with loving both shows of competing promotions.

Ricky Publico (@nyamnyamgarbage) is Smark Henry's seasoned veteran and resident main roster reviewer. He's a sucker for well-written promos and fast-paced matches. While he enjoys nitpicking shows, he now prefers enjoying wrestling for what it is instead of stressing himself over things he can't control. He's anxious about the future, now more than ever. His potential haunts him.
