NXT in the UK (7/22/21): Yes, Boy

Lewis Howley and Flash Morgan Webster

Okay, they explained what they're going to do with WALTER and Ilja Dragunov, so everything I said last week about the "injury" is pointless. Let's talk about it real quick.

    WALTER is not injured

So WALTER isn't really injured—somewhere along the way (probably after they shot the press conference segment from last week's episode in the previous tapings) Triple H and Shawn Michaels (rightfully) decided that WALTER vs. Dragunov II deserves to be on a Takeover card. The "injury" came after a "backstage altercation" that miraculously allowed the match to happen on NXT Takeover 36 on SummerSlam weekend next month. Cool, cool. Why shouldn't a potential Match of the Year candidate happen on a Takeover?

That settles that. Prediction is still the same: it's finally Ilja's time.

This week's main event is a tag team championship match which our new friends Pretty Deadly won. Definitely earned their main event spot, and I'm constantly amazed at how Pretty Deadly can sit back and let their babyface contenders SUBCULTURE steal the spotlight while still being reliable heel foils. Watch this be my match of the week.

I just don't know which babyface team could step up eventually and take the titles from Pretty Deadly, but I surmise there will be enough time to build one up in the future.

    Bits and pieces

    • Jinny and Joseph Conners finally give the partnership explanation that I've been asking for ever since they allied. Why'd it take this long—and after Piper Niven got called up?
    • Nina Samuels returns to TV but Xia Brookside doesn't? What's up there?
