The Grapevine (6/16/21): Details On Samoa Joe's Return To WWE, Changes Reportedly Coming

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

How Samoa Joe returned to NXT

Triple H was a big part of Samoa Joe returning to NXT, as he immediately tried to bring him back the moment Joe was released from the main roster last April. Joe returned to NXT TV on today's episode, declining to become the new NXT General Manager and opting to be an enforcer for William Regal instead. There were also  reportedly other releases that officials at NXT wanted to bring back, with one star even pitching a return to the brand, but did not end up doing so. We say: This tells us that the WWE main roster and NXT are being run like two separate companies under the WWE umbrella at this point, if Triple H does not have dibbing rights or something like that. Still, we're glad that Triple H was able to make something work, though we wonder why other talents were not able to be saved. Either way, everyone's able to work in other companies now more than ever, so it's not that big of a loss for WWE.

Big changes to WWE creative reportedly coming

Vague rumors are stating that there will be changes coming that will reportedly positively impact the quality of WWE creative. For now, whatever it is has only been described as "exciting stuff on the horizon." The word is that Vince McMahon is aware of the poor reception of the product, and WWE is apparently saving their better ideas for when there are live crowds again. We say: We can't comment on what isn't there yet, but the whole mindset of saving their stuff for a live crowd is absolutely silly. People need your entertainment now more than ever. If you've got good ideas, why wait—and inadvertently contribute to the negative sentiment toward your company?
