The Grapevine (5/21/21): FOX Wants WWE To Bring Back Live Crowds Already, Backstage News On Drake Wuertz, AEW Keeping TNT Championship Name After TBS Move

    WrestleMania 37

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

FOX reportedly pushing WWE to bring back live crowds

TV network FOX has been reportedly pushing WWE privately to bring back live crowds, citing other sports leagues that have done it. The company is already rumored to be bringing back crowds on the July 16th edition of SmackDown, a month ahead of the original target of SummerSlam. AEW will be touring live outside of Jacksonville in July as well. (Source: @WrestleVotes)

We say: Well, the US is well on-target to meet its vaccination goals, so this is more than okay for them. It's not like they're the Philippines right now, so it's about time to bring live crowds back.

    Backstage news on Drake Wuertz

Controversial WWE referee Drake Wuertz, who was fired yesterday in a round of releases from NXT, reportedly had major heat on him due to his backstage behavior. He would violate warnings from management about attending events without a mask and a vaccine, other wrestlers had reported stories of Wuertz making political plays backstage and racist and bigoted behavior, and he publicly made a show of disagreeing and walking out during a Triple H speech regarding Black Lives Matter. (Source: Fightful Select)

We say: It's pretty obvious that Wuertz has increasingly been becoming a liability for WWE, and it's more surprising that he wasn't let go sooner considering the controversy he's courted in his time for the company.

AEW to keep TNT Championship name after TBS move

AEW is set to keep the TNT Championship's name after their eventual move to TBS in January 2022. The idea is both networks are owned by WarnerMedia anyway, so it would still be the same company. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: Well, that should answer those questions following the news of AEW moving to TBS.
