The Grapevine (12/9/20): Jaxson Ryker Update, Sting To Wrestle In AEW Eventually, Eva Marie

The Forgotten Sons on WWE SmackDown Live

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

    Update on Jaxson Ryker

After reports saying that Jaxson Ryker would not likely be returning to TV, he appears on this week's episode of Main Event as an enforcer of sorts for Elias. This move apparently surprised a lot of people in WWE, who have expressed that he was "not worth the risk" of being on TV and likely did not expect to see him back. This appearance is apparently a dry run to see if the pairing would work. (Source: Fightful Select)

We say: While this development makes a lot of people look silly, it's one of those things that prove no one backstage source knows everything that's really in the works in the company. The initial internet reaction to Ryker is still negative, so we don't expect much from this attempt, nor will it help Elias right now. Then again, it's also worth remembering that we can all be so wrong at any time.

Update on whether Sting will wrestle

Despite initial reports saying Sting will not be wrestling in AEW, there are apparently plans for the legend to eventually get in the ring. The implication is currently that AEW will be very careful about Sting wrestling, likely leading to cinematic matches, tag team matches, and one-off spots for him. Sting suffered a potentially career-ending neck injury back in 2015 while wrestling Seth Rollins at Night of Champions. (Source: Sports Illustrated)

We say: We figured that's what would happen. You don't sign Sting to a big contract and not have anything physical planned for him—plus five years seem to be enough to heal up and be in some sort of wrestling shape.

    Update on Eva Marie

Eva Marie is reportedly listed as a member of the WWE roster in internal documents. She has been seen at the Performance Center since September, although there is no update on whether she is returning as a wrestler. She was originally rumored to return to WWE in this year's Draft, but that did not happen. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: Honestly? We don't see a spot where Eva Marie could fit in right now. That may be why she hasn't come back to TV yet, other than not being ready to wrestle.
