The Grapevine (12/7/20): The Forgotten Sons' Return, NXT Injury Report, Tessa Blanchard

King Corbin, Steve Cutler, and Wesley Blake on WWE SmackDown

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the important founded and unfounded rumors floating around the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the past few days. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

    Notes on the Forgotten Sons

Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler of the Forgotten Sons returned to TV on last Friday's SmackDown with King Corbin, and Jaxson Ryker will likely be released eventually. They were removed and kept from TV since May as a result of Ryker's social media comments regarding his support for US President Donald Trump and the Black Lives Matter movement.

The Forgotten Sons were reportedly supposed to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championship from the New Day at that time. There are no plans for Ryker to return to TV, and it's said to be likely that he will be released sooner or later, whenever the next round of talent cuts will be. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: It's a good thing Creative still found a spot for Blake and Cutler, because it's pretty clear Ryker was the problem child here. Just find it strange that WWE would fire a whole bunch of guys back in April because they were afraid of losing money over the lockdown, but would still feel no rush to fire Ryker.

NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2020 injury report

A few wrestlers were injured during the WarGames matches today. Oney Lorcan suffered a lacerated face, while Candice LeRae suffered an unspecified arm or wrist injury that may have been a bone break. (Source: Fightful Select)

We say: While this is unfortunately normal now, we have a feeling this might lead to some introspection within NXT on how the talents are wrestling, considering the amount of injuries in the latter half of this year. If that ever happens, a change in style might come.

    Tessa Blanchard update

Former Impact World Champion Tessa Blanchard has apparently received some interest from AEW and WWE. The extent of this interest isn't known, but it's reportedly not true that major companies aren't willing to sign her due to previous controversies with fellow wrestlers. She and husband Daga are reportedly still enjoying married life together and waiting out the pandemic before making any next moves. (Source: Wrestling Inc., Fightful Select)

We say: Blanchard is a polarizing figure in wrestling, but it can't be denied that she'll help out any division she works in. Let's just hope there aren't any more controversies in the future.
