NXT in the UK (12/17/20): Return of the General

WALTER and A-Kid on WWE NXT UK

This week on NXT UK, we don't have to wait until the new year to start a new chapter! The show is making up for lost time with a huge return.

    That's right, WALTER's back

After asking where both men involved in a real Match of the Year candidate were for almost two months, the United Kingdom Champion WALTER finally returns to the show, and all it took was NXT UK Heritage Cup Champion A-Kid calling him out for a title shot.

Having A-Kid use the Heritage Cup Championship as the Intercontinental Championship-esque stepping stone for a title shot makes sense, and one could even argue that WALTER had taken that much time off so they could properly build A-Kid up. But I'll say it one more time—it didn't have to take them this long to get him back. They could've had him on the show in small parts, the same way Trent Seven did a short interview this week after his loss to A-Kid in the finals.

Anyway, WALTER doesn't immediately agree to A-Kid's challenge, not deeming him worthy enough to even step in the ring for the championship. Of course, we all know that means it's only a matter of time before he says yes, because who else is WALTER going to fight? Rampage Brown is still in his squashing jobbers phase, Dragunov is starting over, and they just don't have enough stars.

NXT UK's got a tag team division

That might sound silly to hear, but after weeks of sitting mostly on the sidelines, the brand would like to remind you that their tag team division is pretty robust. In this week's main event, Gallus successfully defends the titles against a very game The Hunt (with the help of too much backup in Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster), and after the match, Pretty Deadly plus Ashton Smith and Oliver Carter also show up.

I've seen this visual before, and it was when NXT UK first came back to the air. Let's hope that this kind of segment doesn't become a crutch they rely on to show their tag team division is more than Gallus and whoever is challenging them at a certain point.
