Live From the 205 (12/11/20): Phasmophobia

Curt Stallion and Joaquin Wilde on WWE 205 Live

Last week, I asked where Legado del Fantasma was in a show that offered its young talents as its next contender. They answer by pitting the entire stable against the youngins of 205 Live in a huge main event... still without telling us when the title match would be.

    Necessary 50-50 booking

On this week's 205 Live main event, #1 contender Curt Stallion rounds up the youngbloods of the cruiserweight division to go up against Legado del Fantasma. He beats the squad with a lucky rollup, but as Legado is still the big bad stable, they proceed to beat him up right after.

Sometimes, 50-50 booking is necessary. There are times when someone absolutely has to score the win on paper to look competent, after which the loser gets his heat back by exacting physical vengeance. It's a lot more forgivable when the losing entity is actually a whole group, because you could at least explain that one person was the weak link in that given instant.

They had to throw Stallion that bone heading into this uncertain Cruiserweight Championship match because he's not going to win that thing when it finally happens. Make it look like he at least has some sort of shot, you know?

I'm just glad the whole stable got to wrestle on 205 Live because as always, the champion being there gives the show its credibility. All that's left is to actually tell us when the match is happening. If I were to book it, I'd put it on 205 Live (because it doesn't seem like they're willing to give Curt Stallion a spot on NXT) then have them promote it on NXT. It's obviously not going to be a marquee defense for NXT itself, and it doesn't have to be. Just make 205 worth people's time every now and then.

Start feeding the NXT tag team division already

In the opening match of this episode, Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari went up against the Bollywood Boyz. At this point, both teams should be given a shot in the NXT tag team division already. It should be okay for 205 Live to feed the tag division, and that's all I'll say about it since I'm starting to sound like a broken record on this. (Nese and Daivari teaming together is also much more preferable than them going through things by themselves.)
