The train never stops rolling in wrestling, does it? Right after the super hot Full Gear pay-per-view, AEW head honcho Tony Khan—or TK if you’re a kiss-ass, according to Eddie Kingston—has confirmed that there won’t just be one AEW game, but a number of them.
Khan announced multiple games were being developed during the Full Gear post-show media scrum. He mentions that games are being made for multiple platforms—Nintendo Switch, please—and that more news will be coming by the end of the year. The head booker of AEW even mentions how plans on Dynamite throughout the year might affect the game, which is always exciting to hear.
Here’s what Khan had to say about the AEW console game and other AEW titles in development:
"I can't say too much. We're making multiple games. We're working on more than one game in AEW games and we're going to cater to multiple platforms. We're going to cater to different kinds of games and different interests. I think we'll put a title out, a console game that's best in class for a console game. We're really excited about it. We have some big surprises to come in 2020. I just can't say enough, but there's still time in 2020. The show was great but there is still a lot left this year. That can impact our video game plans and also, we're going to put something out for those people, like myself, that love putting wrestling cards up together and love to be in the position that I am which is the general manager of AEW. That'll be fun. There's going to be a few different titles and then I don't think we're going to stop anywhere either. I think we're going to expand here at AEW Games because it's a great chance to introduce gaming fans to AEW and introduce AEW to gaming fans, expand and build a business. There's a lot to come from there."
Fans excited for the AEW game will be happy to know that they won’t have to wait long to see it in action. Last week, AEW Games was officially unveiled and multiple social media pages for the game are now available to follow. The studio also teased a big announcement on Wednesday, November 11 (Manila time).
No matter how you look at it, one can’t help but be excited about an AEW video game, especially after WWE 2K20 ended up being a rushed mess, while WWE 2K Battlegrounds didn’t exactly set the world on fire, nor did it hit that sweet gaming spot for wrestling fans. Here’s hoping that it will be good enough so we can finally drop WWE 2K19.
Stay tuned to Smark Henry for more coverage on the AEW video game. Our review for Full Gear is coming soon.
