Live From the 205 (11/27/20): Ghost Town

Curt Stallion and Raul Mendoza on WWE 205 Live

Last week, I begged that 205 Live should have a bigger place in the WWE pantheon. Those prayers were heard this week with some visitors from NXT main.

    Return of the Ghosts

Because the NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar's new #1 contender is Curt Stallion, I'd been hoping that Legado del Fantasma could maybe make another visit down to 205 Live and make it matter. They finally do just that, as Raul Mendoza goes one-on-one against Stallion in this week's main event.

I have to say, actual luchadores were sorely missed on the show. With everyone gone from the brand, the only real high-flyer left was Tony Nese and maybe sometimes Mansoor. I'm a firm believer that a cruiserweight division has to have some actual high-flying because that's just what smaller guys do.

Anyway, the match is good, okay for a 10-minute main event. Stallion gets a roll-up win to show that he's competent enough for the title shot, but Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde get their heat back and beat him up because what use is their numbers advantage if they didn't? It's 50-50 booking, admittedly, but one that's necessary given the circumstances.

I appreciate this whole segment happening on 205 Live. I would appreciate it even more if it happened on Wednesday night, but unfortunately, they just didn't have the time on the show—and that's what this half-hour is for, right?

Now all that's left is to find out when this title match is actually happening, because I haven't gotten any inklings that it'll make the WarGames card. Figure it out, guys, because otherwise, Stallion's just looking stupid not declaring when his shot will be.

A downhill slide for the 205 OGs

In the first match of the show, new blood August Grey beats Ariya Daivari. While Daivari's my boy, I'm glad the so-called "205 Live OGs" are getting punked by the youngins.

I want Daivari and Nese to keep losing to these kids so they could finally get new gimmicks, because we've known these guys since 2016 and they haven't changed one bit.
