While I can’t claim to be a frequent viewer of Being the Elite (BTE), it is admirable how a vlog about being on the road turned into a wrestling sketch show where wrestlers get to have all sorts of fun with each other. At over 200 episodes, the fact that it manages to stay fresh with new skits is a testament to how creative The Young Bucks and the rest of AEW's roster can be, as well as the various wrestlers from NJPW, NWA, and other promotions who have appeared over the years.
It seems like they want to change things up as BTE Episode 224 has revealed the BTE Championship.
The skit starts at around 7:20 on the video with Matt and Nick Jackson talking about how fans miss their vlogs before Brandon Cutler interrupts to introduce the BTE Championship. When grumpy-ass Matt points out how there are already too many championships in wrestling, Cutler reveals that this is a belt that can be defended in ANY kind of competition; not just wrestling.
Cutler left the belt to Matt and Nick, so it looks like we could be seeing our first champion get crowned next week. For all we know, we could see Matt and Nick battle each other in an epic game of chess to decide who will be the first BTE Champion. Maybe they’ll have Luchasarus and Wardlow battle it out in a game of basketball. Hell, have Kenny Omega challenge anybody to a game of Street Fighter V. The possibilities are endless.
Or, you know, they could just have wrestling matches.
Don’t expect to see the BTE Championship pop up on Dynamite or AEW Dark. This will probably stay in the BTE universe where all the silliness of wrestling is contained and I’m excited to see who will be the first person to wear this belt. Crossing my fingers and hoping that it goes to The Dark Order’s John Silver, who has been the show’s comedic MVP.
What do you guys think of the BTE Championship? Why does it look better than a lot of belts in wrestling? Let us know in the comments below.
