The Grapevine (9/7/20): Matt Hardy Injury Update, AOP's Release, RAW Underground

Matt Hardy bump on AEW All Out 2020

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

    Matt Hardy is doing better

Matt Hardy has been released from the hospital. Sammy Guevara speared him off of a lift during the Broken Rules match, where his head hit the concrete floor. The match was "paused" by Tony Khan and resumed after Hardy apparently was cleared of any concussions by AEW's ringside doctor; Hardy went on to win the match after hitting what looked like their planned finish.

Hardy was brought to the hospital for a CT scan and imaging to check for concussions and was released after doing fine. Matt's wife Reby Hardy was not happy about how the entire match was handled, calling out everyone involved on Twitter. (Source: Bryan Alvarez, Dave Meltzer)

We say: That's good to hear. We've already covered how resuming the match was not a good idea in Nico Parungo's All Out review, so no need to get back into it here.

    More on AOP's release

AOP's Rezar was actually cleared to compete before the team was released last week. Rezar, who was sidelined back in March with a biceps injury, was set to return with Akam until they were suddenly released. There was no reason given as to why that happened—it's also worth noting that AOP, who were associated with Seth Rollins before the injury, was not going to return to his side. (Source: Dave Meltzer)

We say: There was absolutely no reason for this at all, especially with either tag divisions needing help. WWE just gave their opponents—likely AEW—a really good team to work with.

    RAW Underground segments get cut

A number of RAW Underground segments for last week's episode did not make the final broadcast. These segments include United States Champion Bobby Lashley and Jessamyn Duke destroying enhancement talent. (Source: Fightful)

We say: Seems like RAW Underground could use its own time on YouTube. Goes to show you how much depth the RAW roster still has today.
