The Grapevine (12/9/19): Losing A Smile

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the week. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

It's true, ACH is apparently quitting pro wrestling:
    • ACH announced that he is canceling his shows and quitting pro wrestling. This comes after intense scrutiny from social media following his statements about WWE and Jay Lethal, leaving the company, signing with Major League Wrestling, and cutting a promo about what he's been through.
We say: The truth is what ACH was saying wasn't wrong. If he says there is a lack of racial sensitivity in the WWE, if there are bad elements in the entire industry, then those things are absolutely true. It seems he's just completely fed up with everything, and it certainly doesn't help that the internet amplifies every emotion, and as a result he went about everything without the savvy that would have kept bridges up. Is this truly the end of ACH's pro wrestling career? With everything that's happened when it comes to personal histories in the business, no one, not even ACH himself, can ever really say never. In the meantime, we hope he can rest his soul and get the help he might need.
    • While Samoa Joe has been getting rave reviews for his work on the RAW commentary team, WWE officials still think he's too valuable to retire from the ring. Joe is currently doing commentary while benched with a thumb injury. Dio Maddin, who was written out through an attack by Brock Lesnar, is back in the WWE Performance Center to continue training as a wrestler. (Source: WON)
We say: Given how loaded the RAW roster is, would there really still be a space for Joe when he gets back? Granted, you could always make room, but is that a thing they can do and still have it make sense?
    • WWE United Kingdom Champion WALTER was the victim of a break-in robbery in Chicago last Saturday, the day of EVOLVE 142. The windows of his rental car were smashed in, and the UK Championship as well as his passport were stolen. Timothy Thatcher, WALTER's opponent on EVOLVE 141 the night before, was also the victim of a break-in the previous day. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: That's rough, but WALTER getting his passport stolen is much worse than losing a title belt WWE probably has a lot more of. Hope he can get it back.
