31 Days of Wrestling (12/19/19): Short But Sweet (RIHO vs. Jibzy vs. Crystal vs. Jaye Sera, Queen of Asia Championship, PWR Live: Championship Spirit)

Welcome to the 31 Days of Wrestling, ladies, and gentlemen. Once again, we're at that point where we take a look back at the past 11 months of pro wrestling (and as much as possible, the last month as well) and cherry-pick one match for each day of December from a list of bouts that defined the year in our beloved sport. Most matches will be good, while some may not be; what matters is that they helped build the perception and reputation of the kind of wrestling 2019 produced for us.

When a Four Way Match for the Queen of Asia Championship was announced for PWR Live: Championship Spirit, the Revo-Nation went nuts.

The reigning, defending Queen of Asia, Riho, was coming to town as part of her overseas tour before heading over to AEW. Along with her was Jibzy from Gatoh Move Thailand, who had participated in the recent WWE tryout in China. Both women came to do battle with two local wrestlers: the Philippine's own Queen, Crystal, who was always on a quest to prove she was among the best in Asia, and the fiery redhead rookie, Jaye Sera, who was looking to show that she can stand toe-to-toe with her seniors and rise above them.

From a casual standpoint, speaking as someone whose exposure to pro wrestling was limited to WWE and local shows, with a dash of indies knowledge thrown in, what was the big deal about these foreign wrestlers? What made the people beside me during the announcement squeal out with glee when they hear their names?

I was about to find out.

The match itself didn't even reach the 10-minute mark, but it was jam-packed with intense action from start to finish. Jibzy looked like a badass from the very first time she appeared in a promo for the event. One could already expect that she was going to be a hard hitter. Riho, on the other hand, showed up in a white flowing dress, full of butt-kicking grace. In those 10 minutes, both women showed that whatever misconceptions one would have regarding them would be quickly swept away.

The homegrown talent were no slouches, either. Crystal, the veteran, showed her signature crisp work. The real breakout star has to be Jaye Sera, though. The only one who had not held gold at that point looked like a real contender for the championship; one of the highlights of the match included her landing a beautiful moonsault on Crystal. In the end, however, RIHO proved too much as she put Jibzy away with a Somato to retain her championship.

Jaye Sera was made in this match. The rookie showed her mettle in what was arguably one of the greatest performances by a local female wrestler who wasn't named Crystal. She showed that she belonged in that four-way, matching the other three move for move, and then some.

With not even a year since her in-ring debut, Sera displayed that she is indeed the embodiment of angas. That never-back-down attitude in the face of veteran experience was on full display. This may have been just a stop in the Riho Asia tour, but Jaye Sera took that opportunity to tell the region that she's ready to kick some ass.

To be honest, the only way this match could have been made any better that day is if the then MyPW Wrestlecon Champion, Nor "Phoenix" Diana had jumped into the fray. Hey, she was already in the crowd anyway.
