    #ThemeSongTuesday: Into The Fire!

We're about a couple of months away from officially ending the 2010s and wrestling fans are all raring to go back to 1985. How the hell did we get here?

NWA Powerrr is to thank for this revival of the type of Southern wrestling that the generation before us grew up watching. I wasn't sure what the hype was myself. All I'd been told was that it was so... different and that I would love it.

God damn, were they right. If you've been looking for an off-the-wall alternative to your mainstream WWE diet—basically something to fill the void Lucha Underground left behind—then NWA Powerrr is absolutely your jam. Now, I'm not going to steal our head honcho Ro Moran's thunder. You can read his review of Episode 3 right here.

What I will talk about is quite possibly the best opening theme song in all of wrestling today: "Into The Fire" by Dokken.

Taken straight out of the mid-80s—this song came out in September 1984—"Into The Fire" is as glam and stadium rock, with a bit of blues, all rolled up into one glorious package. What's wonderful about the song is that its got such a crisp bassline, while the guitar riffs are stereotypically bombastic. And then there's the beat, which when you combine with Don Dokken's vocals, bring this stadium anthem to life.

"Into The Fire" is a song that could have been an entrance song for a wrestler with a glam rock gimmick. Or it could have very well been part of a training montage in a Rocky III or IV or The Karate Kid. Hell, it's a song you can imagine being the soundtrack for Southpaw freakin' Regional Wrestling!

What's gotten fans of NWA Powerrr loving this 35-year-old song is the fact that it just brings back so many memories of the presentation of the 1980s. Sure, not all of it was big hair, stadium rock, and glam makeup, but what the show did was take a lot of these iconic motifs and reapply a modern take on them for the show. None of this should work. But god damn, it works!

It really helps that the NWA realized how campy their presentation could be, so they just doubled down on it, embracing the Backstreet Boys' philosophy that what makes them different makes them beautiful.

I mean, check out these opening credits for some of the big stars of the show!

I started laughing when I saw these, but with the presentation just going full campy and full 80s, I couldn't help but respect what the NWA is doing here.

"Into The Fire" is exactly the theme song they needed for Powerrr. It just throws you into the time machine and takes you straight to the mid-80s, admittedly the glory days of the NWA, and lets you see (and hear) how those days would look through the lens of 2019.

I know it's wrong, but I can't turn away. I'm falling into the fire!
