The Grapevine (8/9/19): Live From Full Sail University, It's NXT

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the week. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

NXT is about to get a huge upgrade this fall:
    • NXT will apparently be moving to FS1 this October, and what's more: officials want the show to go live for two hours on 8 p.m. ET every Wednesday. There's no word yet if this means the show would broadcast live from Full Sail University each week, or if it would start touring.

This would officially pit NXT versus AEW on TNT, and while the move to FS1 was something planned for some time now (as early as June), they reportedly didn't finalize the timeslot until AEW announced theirs. The expansion to two hours is apparently because those in charge didn't think a taped show would compete against AEW well. (Source: WON)
We say: This is some pretty huge news, and it's likely the exact move NXT the brand needs to finally maximize their ridiculously stacked roster. Our only hope is that the show still retains its emphasis on sound wrestling and storytelling—meaning we really, really wish Triple H still stays in charge.
    • In slightly related news, there is word that WWE also wants to buy FITE TV. FITE, which NJPW, Impact, ROH, AEW, and many other independent promotions are streaming on, going to WWE would likely mean all of these would lose a broadcast avenue, but it's still unknown how far along the talks are. (Source: WON)
We say: What an unusual move, given the convenience and ubiquity of the WWE Network among wrestling fans. It sounds more like they're just trying to pull the rug from under AEW and other competitors, which doesn't sound good for the healthy industry.
    • Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan may not be happening on SummerSlam. As of the end of this week's episode of SmackDown Live, Rowan had only been revealed by Buddy Murphy as a suspect in the attack on Roman Reigns. The rumors say that the angle may further play out on the PPV. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: WWE actually letting something play out instead of rushing into a match? Who'd have thought? Granted, this is really due to them starting the story way too late, but we're glad they've got the self-awareness to know that a match on Sunday would only make Reigns look bad. That is, of course, barring any last-minute announcements.

Let us know what you think of today's news in the comments!
