The Grapevine (8/16/19): Clashing in the Ring

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the week. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

Here's what we know about Clash of Champions:

    • Braun Strowman is rumored to be challenging Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship at Clash of Champions. No one is sure yet how he'll switch to Seth Rollins after challenging AJ Styles next week on RAW. Other plans include the King of the Ring finals, Sasha Banks versus Becky Lynch for the RAW Women's Championship, and the possible Ali versus Shinsuke Nakamura for the Intercontinental Championship. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio, Wrestling Inc)
We say: That's looking to be a solid card, and a good matchup for an underutilized Strowman.
    • Buddy Murphy reportedly wasn't scripted to be visible in the original Roman Reigns attack segment. He just happened to be there, and WWE saw the fan speculation online about his possible involvement and decided to go with it. There are no updates yet on how he'll figure in the storyline moving forward after having a match with Roman Reigns on SmackDown Live this week. (Source: Wrestling Observer Live)
We say: Well, it was a happy accident, turning the angle into more of a storyline worthy of WWE 2K. We just hope it means more screen time for Buddy, who really is the company's best-kept secret.
    • WWE apparently wants Rey Mysterio's son Dominick to wrestle on RAW. While the feeling is also that he isn't ready to do so on the WWE stage, they reportedly want him to prepare for a run next year by being involved in Rey's current storylines. Dominick has had some training under Lance Storm. (Source: WON)
We say: That's honestly not a good look, considering the process everyone else has to go through just to make it in the WWE. Maybe Dominick could be sent down to the Performance Center (if he isn't already) to get that seasoning in if they really want him to debut in 2020.

Let us know what you think of this week's news in the comments!
