The Man And The Big Dog: WWE 2K20's Cover Stars Revealed

If you've been following WWE's and WWE 2K's YouTube channels, then you'll know that it's official. WWE 2K20 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 22, 2019!

While that much is pretty obvious by now, let's scope out the contents of each of the videos by breaking down the announced features so we know what to expect with this year's iteration of the WWE 2K franchise.

    Becky and Se... Roman?!

Unsurprisingly, due to her stellar year and steady rise to the main event scene, Becky Lynch graces the cover of this year's game. With all "The Man" has achievedmain eventing WrestleMania 35 and capturing both the SmackDown's and RAW's Women's Championshipsshe deserves to be the star of the game.

What strikes me as odd is how Seth Rollins isn't the other featured Superstar alongside Lynch. With the way these two have been presentedwith both coming out of this year's 'Mania with their respective championshipsit's a mystery why they didn't use the poster as another way to milk the Lynch/Rollins relationship they've done so blatantly on TV.

In an unexpected turn of events, it's actually fellow Shield member Roman Reigns who appears with Lynch on the cover so it isn't too bad of a choice. Roman has had an eventful year, too, after conquering Leukemia and also appearing in Hobbs and Shaw.

    Women's Evolution

In line with the cover star being Becky Lynch, 2K is bringing the 2K Showcase Mode back, which will follow not only her career but also those of her fellow Four Horsewomen: Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair, and Bayley.

Early rumors have placed the beginning of the career mode at the very first NXT TakeOver, where Charlotte Flair defeated Natalya to capture the first of her many championships. While this is just a rumor for now, don't be surprised if this is how 2K Showcase Mode begins because of the spotlight being on the Four Horsewomen.

It's also likely we'll have extra episodes in this mode where dream matches or even older women's matches may be in place. I actually expect more than just multiple models of the four ladies. I do hope Irish Dancer Becky is there as an extra model just for the giggles.

    His And Hers

Two things that have been requested ever since 2K took hold of the WWE video games include a female MyCareer mode and the return of Mixed Tag Team matches. It seems we're getting our wishes as both features are present for this year. It is yet unknown how both mechanics will play out but as an avid WWE gamer, having more options to fiddle with will be better so this is a welcome addition.

    The Special Editions

I'm one of the people who bought last year's Ric Flair Wooooo! Edition so I'm the type who's willing to spend on these special versions if I deem them essential. As always, Deluxe and Collector's Edition buyers will receive WWE SuperCard Limited Edition Cards, the WWE 2K20 Originals content, in-game bonuses, and additional playable Superstars like Hulk Hogan, The Rock (Alternate Model), Mankind, and for the first time ever in the WWE 2K series, Chyna!

Aside from that, this year's premium Collector's Edition will come bundled with collectibles such as a Limited Edition WWE SmackDown! Legend Autographed Plaque (either from Kurt Angle, Edge or Rey Mysterio) and a piece of the WWE SmackDown! Ring Skirt.

While I'm not really into these kinds of memorabilia, I know at least one of us here in the Smark Henry offices is very much willing to do what it takes to get his hands on a Kurt Angle signed plaque. *cough* George Carlos Pastor *cough*

    What To Expect

As with every other WWE game, the rosters can most likely be made out by cross-checking who appeared last year and if they're still working in the company. Of course, Legends may or may not be replaced so that's a different story altogether but, hey, we're sure Hulk Hogan is back on the roster because he's part of the Deluxe Edition.

Otherwise, I do hope Tomasso Ciampa, Nikki Cross, and Brian Kendrick return to the series as they were notably absent last year. Expect the likes of Dean Ambrose, Tye Dillinger, and Chris Jericho to not be part of the game anymore due to their AEW affiliation. It's a safe bet that at least more NXT UK stars will be present so WALTER could make his video game debut this year. In fact, I'm counting on a lot of debuts to fill the void that a lot of big names will be leaving.

In terms of features, we do know Tower Mode will be back and we can expect some new tweaks here and there. Universe Mode also comes back and I truly hope this year's version will have a major overhaul. While we've got a bunch of new scenes over the years, the mechanics of this mode may need a facelift. The brand split may affect this mode as well so expect a little tweak on 2K's part.

As the NBA 2K series has announced the inclusion of a Dynamic Soundtrack, I expect no less from WWE 2K20. With the promise of updates which will provide new possible soundtracks for the NBA game every couple of months, I feel that this is something the WWE games could utilize. The days of "Smoke and Mirrors" on repeat from SmackDown vs RAW 2010 may long be gone if this feature is implemented.

I thought the WWE 2K20 Originals was just a fancy way of saying Season Pass, but with the way Xavier Woods presented the idea along with the accompanying concept art, it seems 2K is thinking out of the box and offering more out of this world ideas just to keep gamers surprised.

While it's not really a major step up from previous years, so far, things are looking good. If you're a WWE fan and an avid gamer, you're bound to enjoy the yearly roster refresh and insertion of little fixes and features. I'm still looking forward to future announcements so let's all stay tuned for more announcements from WWE and 2K Games.
