The Grapevine (6/28/19): The '90s All Over Again

Welcome to the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the week. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

By now you've already heard of Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman running shows again:

    • Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff have been named Executive Directors of RAW and SmackDown, respectively. As far as anyone knows, these are 100% behind-the-scenes roles that largely have to do with running each brand and reporting to Vince McMahon, who will still have the final say on all storylines. There is no update yet on where Triple H fits into all of this.

Heyman had been working on some storylines for RAW prior to this official hiring, but there was word that FOX wanted to work with him when SmackDown moves to the network this fall. Meanwhile, Bischoff's TV work prior to this is what got him the job. (Source: SI.com, Wrestling Observer Radio)
We say: Talk about a panic move, but it's unclear how much change this will bring about until we've actually seen long-term effects under the new regime. It all depends on how much influence Vince McMahon will continue to have, and whether Heyman and Bischoff's hiring will actually mean something when it comes to the creative direction. If he knows what's good for them, however, he would actually hand the reins over and start rebuilding and looking at things in the long term.
    • The Undertaker apparently wants to face Drew McIntyre. He reportedly gave WWE a shortlist of opponents after his match at WWE Super Showdown. This may explain Undertaker's role in the Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre feud. (Source: SI.com)
We say: Well, that's definitely a better choice than Goldberg.

Let us know what you think of this week's news in the comments!
