SmackDown RunDown Live (6/18/19): Chairshot Outtandhwgsahawegger

Seth Rollins is on to something and I'm digging it. Who knew a few vicious chair shots could generate some spark in WWE's driest of dry spells? For the first time since the first week of his reign, Rollins finally found his edge. I'm not even sure how Baron Corbin received the guest referee advantage in the first place, but don't you just love Rollins victimizing these poor jobbers with a steel chair?

To top it all off, he's still an effective babyface, even after the violence that's not babyface-like. I imagine some wrestling memas out there are already freaking out that their precious babyface is acting pretty heel-ish by victimizing a bunch of innocents. Nope! It also helps that his victims are all heels anyway, although I'm not sure if he'll attack Matt Hardy next. He better be for consistency purposes, but I don't want to see my boy Matt get hurt. Unless his attack could lead to him being "broken" again or something. What's a tangent?

Team him up with Kofi Kingston and pit them against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn and you'll get an enjoyable main event, the first in a long while. Sure, they're still floating in this sort of creative limbo, but I still love watching Zayn and Owens work their stuff. At least we can still expect some great matches from these underused players. That's all I have to say, really. I'm just glad we got a fun main event and I'm glad I didn't waste an hour and a half of my life watching some bland show.

And why exactly is Baron Corbin looking for a special guest referee? Doesn't he know that the ultimate anathema in the WWE is a referee uniform? Any wrestler who wears it becomes five times weaker than they are. You can make Brock Lesnar wear it and he'll tumble at the slightest accidental kick from Rollins. Just get a regular referee and be done with it.

SMACKDOWN RUNDOWN: Not gonna lie, this week's episode is a wee bit improved compared to the last one, probably because of the great showing from Seth Rollins. Let's just pin it down to that fun main event where the champions stood tall and everything felt right in the world. Come to think of it, Rollins and Kofi Kingston make for a great tag team. I'll give this episode seven chair shots out of ten.

    The RunDown CutDown

    • I know I should stop caring now that R-Truth is not the 24/7/365 Champion anymore, but I'm still curious how Drake Maverick's wedding will tie into this R-Truth universe they created. They better make this work.
    • The backstage segment between the IIconics and Asuka/Kairi was better than any other women's segment I've seen in a while. That, or I just really miss having Asuka and Kairi Sane around.
    • You know how you look at a tag team and you instantly know who the Jannetty is? Yeah, Heavy Machinery's Tucker. Sigh.
    • I miss a good Daniel Bryan tirade. Bring him back into the world title picture. Please?
    • Can someone just punch Aleister Black in the face in his little dressing room or something? Let's see him kick some major butt already!
    • Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville broke Ember Moon's Nintendo Switch. Yup, that's a storyline. I mean, I would flip out if someone dropped my laptop too… You know what, I take my sarcasm back. This is a legit storyline.
