    Live From the 205 (5/21/19): Five-Way Fatal

Here's Ro reporting with another two-episode review again! My apologies for not getting these up to speed as 205 Live is, admittedly, not all that to write home about these days.

The Cruiserweight Championship match at Money in the Bank was just... there. As I've said before, Tony Nese/Ariya Daivari, while technically sound on paper, just isn't a standout match. Trust me. I'm an Ariya Daivari fan and I appreciate what he does in the ring, but it just wasn't a match I would book as Nese's second championship defense. Build up Ariya a little more, then we'll talk.

They apparently try to move on from this feud with a fatal five-way match this week on 205 Live; and while it doesn't explicitly make anyone the next #1 contender, a strong case has to be made for the winner of this match. It is, after all, a gathering of the division's top contenders at the moment, and if there were an actual official ladder ranking then the result would matter.

Akira Tozawa winning this fatal five-way match is an interesting route to go, considering his charisma, but what's even more telling is the killer instinct he showed in that match going after Brian Kendrick despite the latter offering his hand in friendship. Something tells me that if Tozawa is the new #1 contender, he'll be positioned as the pseudo-heel between him and Nese.

This is a concept I would love to see, and could be the shot in the arm both Tozawa and the division needs. Bring it on.

205 Live 5/21/19 Final Grade: Between the NXT UK crossover episode and this week's outing, the show's continuing its steady string of solid episodes. B+

205 Live Rankings As of 5/24/19

How does this week figure in the Smarkometrics Experience Xtreme's computations of the division rankings?
      1. Tony Nese (#2 last week) — Nese gets back to the top of the mountain after successfully defending his title at Money in the Bank.
      2. Akira Tozawa (#3 last week) — It seems like Tozawa's rise was predicted by the S.E.X. after shooting to #3 following his victory over Kanellis. Is this finally it?
      3. Ariya Daivari (#1 last week) — Daivari drops down to #3 after two straight losses.
      4. Lucha House Party (no movement) — The Lucha House Party, while not able to show up on 205 Live, still has a steady gig on RAW and SmackDown Live. Even if it is being fodder to Lars Sullivan.
      5. Oney Lorcan (#6 last week) — Has a strong showing in this week's fatal five-way main event.
      6. Mike Kanellis (#7 last week) — See Oney Lorcan.
      7. Brian Kendrick (new) — See Oney Lorcan.
      8. Jack Gallagher (#9 last week) — Beats up the Singhs with Humberto Carrillo, his new BFF? Also showing up at NXT UK next week.
      9. Humberto Carrillo (new) — See Jack Gallagher.
      10. The Singh Brothers (#5 last week) — Shoots down to the bottom of the rankings after losing to Gallagher and Carrillo.
