#ThemeSongTuesday: Good Day For A Swell Battle... Now Go!

It's been a while since we last had a local wrestler's theme get featured on this column, so we might as well highlight one of the best themes we've heard at a wrestling show in the Philippines all year in this week's #ThemeSongTuesday!

I'm not much of a video gamer, but I've got a soft spot in my heart for entrance themes that are heavily rooted in video games in general. Having themes like TJP's is a great way to merge two things you love—wrestling and video games—on a huge stage like in front of a live audience. Not everyone is comfortable doing that, so I really respect the folks who are out and proud about all of their fandoms, however niche they can be.

Our local locker rooms have their fair share of gamers, too. And one of them has taken his love for fighting games and incorporated it into his wrestling character by using an entrance theme that should be recognizable to fans of the Castlevania video game franchise.

Yep, Quatro's theme is from Castlevania itself and it's a remix of the track "Bloody Tears," which was uploaded by YouTuber Lyude. "I'm a huge fan of the Castlevania franchise," Quatro excitedly shares. "["Bloody Tears"] really gets me hyped!"

He adds that like wrestling, Castlevania was very much a part of his childhood. "Vania's story and lore are just amazing," he explains. "The characters—especially the villains and anti-heroes are not just plain good guys or bad guys. They have an ideology and the story explains why and how they became what they are." In many ways, Quatro—one of the most popular wrestlers in the local scene today—sees how fully fleshed-out characters with shades of gray can add depth and enrich stories. He definitely knows what he's talking about, having been the central figure in one of 2018's most compelling storylines in the Lightbringer Arc of the Council of Trabajadores narrative.

The Lightbringer surely knows how to pick 'em. After all, if you're going to go with a video game as an inspiration for your entrance theme, you might as well go with one of the classics. As TJP went with Mega Man as his inspiration for his theme, Quatro went with another franchise that has stood the test of time. "The games have aged well," he adds. "Yes, the graphics are outdated now, but [Castlevania] is still interesting to new audiences because of the excellent gameplay and presentation."

Listening to the track above, you'll notice that the familiar hook that goes, "Good day for a swell battle... Now go!" is missing. That's because it comes from another game altogether.

The hook comes from Cuphead, an independently-developed game that you can play on the Xbox One and on the PC, and you're likely to hear it before the boss battles in the game. "It emulates the style of boxing announcers from the 1950s, so it's pretty cool to use it as a [hook,]" Quatro says.

Even without the video game references, the Lyude remix of "Bloody Tears" works as a wrestling entrance theme because it's got an intro that builds up well to the main riff. It's intense and it can go hard, both of which accurately describe Quatro's in-ring style. The best part about the song is that it delivers a big fight feel on its own, which is what every Quatro match feels like. That makes "Bloody Tears" a great entrance theme because it sums the wrestler up all on its own.

2019 should be a big year for the Lightbringer, who is thinking of updating his theme by using a different arrangement and tempo of "Bloody Tears." Whenever he busts that out, it should get a pop from his fans, old and new, as well as those who grew up loving Vania's story in Castlevania. On that fateful day in January, it should be... a good day for a swell battle. Now go!
