The Grapevine (6/8/18): Taming the Beast

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

It seems that the end of Brock Lesnar's historic Universal Championship run is in sight:

    • There are apparently plans for Brock Lesnar to finally lose the WWE Universal Championship at no later than SummerSlam, to none other than Roman Reigns. Lesnar is apparently getting paid by the match, and the loss of his title may mean the end of his WWE run as well. Current plans are still for Reigns to have his moment with the championship. (Source: Sports Illustrated, WON)
We say: Well, it's about time, isn't it? Our only concern is how to build Reigns back up to a point in which he's actually a credible contender to Lesnar again.
    • According to Brie Bella, the reports of John Cena and Nikki Bella officially getting back together are not true. Bella says that the couple still "needs time." (Source: E! News)
We say: The back-and-forth on this news is interesting and doesn't exactly help the speculation that this may be a huge work. Whatever the case, we hope the couple end up happy after all this.
    • Eli Drake isn't booked for Impact Wrestling's Slammiversary this year due to him not committing yet. There's still some interest from WWE in signing the former Impact Global Champion, and while Drake and Impact are still negotiating there's obviously no final deal yet. (Source: WON)
We say: We're just gonna repeat what we said before: stick to Impact, Eli. You won't get lost in the shuffle there, and you'll learn a lot from the guys they're bringing in.
    • Jeff Hardy is currently dealing with a pinched nerve. The injury is causing some numbness in his fingers. This may be why Jeff hasn't been used on SmackDown Live TV the past couple of weeks since losing to Daniel Bryan on the May 22nd episode, but he's still working dark matches. (Source: PWTorch)
We say: Hoping for the best for Jeff, as it doesn't seem so bad. But maybe it's time to put the title on someone that isn't so injury-prone at the moment (who also isn't Randy Orton)?
