The Grapevine (5/18/18): Laying the Smack Down Elsewhere

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

Where will RAW and SmackDown end up next year?

    • The new deals for RAW (and with it, SmackDown Live) are yet to be finalized, but FOX is still in the running to acquire the flagship shows. WWE and NBC Universal (the parent company of the USA Network) are still negotiating the new deal for RAW, which is worth three times its current value and would take place after the current one expires in September next year, but it's not finalized yet. FOX still wants to pursue getting both RAW and SmackDown, and it's likely to get SmackDown as WWE is looking for new networks for it if NBCU picks up RAW at thrice its value. Other networks also in the running for SmackDown are Facebook and Amazon. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)
We say: It's intense, but we feel like we'd much rather have WWE on FOX, so that it could eventually lead to a comeback on local/regional FOX television. Keep your fingers crossed (and let the kind people over at FOX Philippines know that you want WWE back on their channel). As for RAW, we don't care where it ends up, just make it two hours again, please.
    • Jeff Hardy was seemingly injured at SmackDown Live in London this week, but he's apparently fine now. He looked injured while making his entrance for the dark United States Championship match against the Miz after the broadcasts were over. He was noticeably hobbling before and after the match, leading many to speculate that he was hurt early. He seems to be fine now as he continued wrestling on the European tour. (Source: Wrestling Inc)
We say: Hoping it's not so bad (or that he isn't working hurt) as Jeff is just gaining some momentum as the new US champion.
    • It seems as though Titus O'Neil is gearing up for a role in a Marvel movie. He recently tweeted about losing weight to play a Marvel character, and that he may be working with Batista soon.
We say: Your guess on who he could be is as good as ours, but the first person that comes to mind is Bill Foster, also known as Goliath or Giant-Man—but then we remember Laurence Fishburne is already playing him in Ant-Man and the Wasp. But really, given the way Marvel has been casting and changing characters from the comics left and right, he could be anyone at this point. We're stoked for Titus.
