#ThemeSongTuesday: The One and Only King of Flight

Whenever the nickname "Human Highlight Reel" gets brought up, I think of Dominique Wilkins. He was the OG Human Highlight Reel as the scoring machine who led the Atlanta Hawks through the 1980s. But in wrestling, that moniker has been passed around through the years. You may have heard it used to describe Sabu in his prime or Peak Rey Mysterio. However, for this generation, I wouldn't be surprised if Ricochet takes that nickname all for himself.

I've been a fan of his since I first started watching him on Lucha Underground as Prince Puma. Just when I thought I'd been jaded as a wrestling fan that highflyers don't impress me as much as they used to, this guy came along and proved me wrong. His unique blend of quickness, agility, and hang time made every match of his must-watch. For those of you who didn't follow his adventures on LU or NJPW, you're in for a treat as the NXT chapter of his career takes flight.

Ricochet has been treated as a big deal in WWE from the moment he signed, and it shows in his presentation. You see it in how he was immediately placed in the 6-Man Ladder Match for the North American Championship, despite not really having done anything on NXT yet. If anyone ever doubted why this man is a star on the rise—and even got an endorsement from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson—then look no further than what he does in the ring and how he does it.

That's why his theme song fits him so well. "One and Only" is a theme that seems tailor-made for Ricochet because it's the type of song you can slap on to a video package featuring his greatest hits. It's literally made for a highlight reel. If WWE still made entrance videos the way they used to, where you'd see the Superstar perform his signature moves, you can easily imagine this song playing in the background to a montage of moonsaults, shooting star presses, and 630 splashes.

The song sounds so compelling that it can just as easily be used as the theme song for a superhero TV series or even an anime. The buildup that leads to the main loop, in particular, sounds like something you can use for the title cards. I don't even mind that the song is a five-minute loop, like most CFO$ tracks, because the energy is consistent all throughout. Like Ricochet, it doesn't mess around.

One thing that you might not immediately notice in the song is the vocals. If you listen hard enough, I bet you'll recognize the voice who bellows, "One. And. Only." at the start.

Yep, it's none other than the Godfather of NXT himself: Triple H.

If that's not another ringing endorsement, I don't know what is. As for the "Ric-o-chet!" bits that you hear intermittently throughout the track, it also sounds like Trips, but it could very well be someone else's vocals. I choose to believe we're actually hearing the voice of the King of Kings.

That being said, Ricochet is truly someone to keep an eye on as he soars through the NXT landscape. Watch out: the King is ready to take flight.
