The Grapevine (4/12/18): A Hyped Beast

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

What happened with Vince McMahon and Brock Lesnar after WrestleMania?
    • Brock Lesnar and Vince McMahon reportedly got into a fight after the main event of WrestleMania. It wasn't clear what Lesnar was mad about, but he apparently threw his Universal Championship at a wall, causing Shane McMahon to jump in before he eventually left with Paul Heyman. It's being reported that Lesnar may have gone slightly off-script toward the end of the match, but it's not clear exactly how.

The finish to the Lesnar/Reigns match was apparently kept a big secret, as the referee who officiated the match did not even know that Lesnar was retaining until after the match began. This is a huge departure from the rumored plans that Reigns was to finally win the title at this WrestleMania. Lesnar and Heyman got new WWE contracts, presumably extensions of their current deals, with Lesnar's new deal allowing him to have at least one fight in the UFC. Lesnar is scheduled to defend against Reigns again in a Steel Cage match at the Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia. (Source: PWInsider, Wrestling Observer Radio)
We say: This is all weird, and the finish of the match could be involved in some sort of last-minute ploy to keep Brock in the WWE without completely going back to the UFC. They should've just let Roman win, though.
    • WWE may have plans to have Ronda Rousey main event next year's WrestleMania. WWE was trying to drum up support from women in interviews, trying to get them to say that Ronda should have main evented this year's show. The possible choices for her opponent are Charlotte and Asuka, with Asuka apparently having figured in plans with Ronda before. Asuka was reportedly told to not use the cross armbar at all during her match with Charlotte. On a related note, Asuka is staying on RAW to feud with RAW Women's Champion Nia Jax. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)
We say: Interesting choice, and something we might actually get behind if they're willing to seed it out over the next year.
    • Local television networks in Pittsburgh are promoting a triple threat match between Baron Corbin, Shinsuke Nakamura, and AJ Styles for the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules. The show is happening in July at Pittsburgh. While this may reflect the plans for the card, plans are always subject to change; however, what ends up happening is usually close to this. We say: Interesting wrinkle to have Corbin in the mix, but we'd rather not let Shinsuke Nakamura wait that long to win the title. (Unless he's already lost it once by then.)
