TV5 Is Bringing WWE Back To Local TV

MANILAAA! Don't you dare be sour! Clap for your new favorite local free TV network and feel the powerrr!

It's a new day, yes, it is for Filipino wrestling fans, who just 24 hours ago, agonized over the news that FOX Philippines was no longer going to air WWE programming on its network.

Today at around 2:30 PM (local time), TV5 made this huge announcement on its Facebook page this afternoon, much to the delight of the Filipino wrestling community.

While there aren't any details known beyond what's already up on TV5's social media, it's amazing that their social media team are keeping their ears close to the ground. Fans have immediately asked if the shows will be dubbed into Tagalog, to which TV5 replied:
They even started a nice little game on their Twitter, inviting fans to tweet their Tagalized catchphrases just so they can milk the mileage. Nice play, Magoo. May kasama pang foul!

So what can we expect when WWE returns to free TV on April 30? At this point, nobody knows, but we at Smark Henry do have a little (realistic) wish list.

    1. That TV5 aggressively pursue the right advertisers for WWE. This is where it all starts and ends, because at the end of the day, Jessie J is wrong. It is all about the money, money, money. If fans want to see RAW and SmackDown Live weekly, then TV5 has to justify it with advertising revenue for at least five hours worth of programming. Imagine how much more it'll take to air 205 Live or NXT.
    2. That TV5 air the shows without too much of a delay. The dark ages of watching episodes three weeks after they initially aired in the U.S. are long gone, and rightfully so. Let's not go back there.
    3. That WWE shows aren't Tagal—oh, wait, they already took care of that. Cool.
    4. That TV5 get to air PPVs... Actually, this one's mighty tricky. Broadcast rights for PPVs are already made expensive by WWE as a way to lure more fans to subscribe to the WWE Network. Smark Henry has no details on the broadcast partnership between TV5 and WWE, but this one could be the most interesting aspect right now.
    5. That TV5's online networks be open to local coverage of WWE and pro wrestling in general! Who knows, if they need a hand (or three), there might be a few writers on this space who could be of much help.
What's on your TV5 wish list now that they've got the broadcast rights to WWE? And are you excited for April 30?
