Fans of tag team wrestling finally have reason to rejoice. After months of speculation over the gradual ramp-up of tag teams in the Philippine Wrestling Revolution, we can now confirm that a PWR Tag Team Championship will finally be introduced into the promotion.
As announced by PWRCentral.com, a tournament to crown the first ever holders of this long-demanded pair of belts will kick off at this month's PWR Live: Mainit.
Confirmed for participation are the following seven tag teams'
- The Fighters 4 Hire (Miguel Rosales & Joey Bax)
- The YOLO Twins (Yohann & Logan Ollores)
- MTNH (Rederick Mahaba & Ralph Imabayashi)
- The Network (James “Idol” Martinez & Alexander Belmonte III)
- The Punk Dolls (Robynn & Martivo)
- The Deadly Sinns (Mike Madrigal & Vlad Sinnsyk)
- Delirium (Dan Ericsson & Dax Xaviera)
Seven is certainly an odd number for a tournament such as this—the original PWR Championship tournament of 2015 did, after all, comprise eight combatants who each squared off in four quarterfinal matches. Could a free-for-all to award an eighth slot be in the making, or could the long-dormant Beer Promdi be returning to the PWR battlegrounds as a surprise entry?
It's hard to call out any favorites right now, although the YOLO Twins are certainly on a roll in the division after dismantling both the Fighters 4 Hire and Beer Promdi in recent outings. F4H is the true OG of the PWR tag division and should always be considered dangerous, while MTNH has a former PWR Champion in Ralph Imabayashi. But don't sleep on the newly-named Deadly Sinns; Madrigal and Sinnsyk are both talented athletes with a killer instinct.
Be on the lookout for bracket announcements in the coming weeks, Revo-Nation! Who you got as your favorite to win the tourney? Let us know, and we'll see you at the show!
