Out of the frying pan, into the fire—that's how reigning PHX Champion Peter Versoza must be feeling with tonight's shocking announcement of his foe for this month's Philippine Wrestling Revolution show, PWR Live: Mainit.
Fresh off a pair of bruising wins against former champion Main Maxx, Versoza is scheduled to square off with PWR's resident force of nature, The Apocalypse.
Followers of the country's leading pro wrestling promotion are probably just as surprised as we are by this seemingly random title shot for the masked monster; he's coming off of a third straight failed attempt to claim the PWR Championship, and has never crossed paths with Versoza in a big way before. Nevertheless, this will be a high-flying match pitting two of PWR's premier risk-takers against each other, lack of back story he damned.
This is going to be a serious challenge for Peter. He seemed completely unconcerned about what his next match would be as PHX Champion when we last heard from him. But we bet a dozen Los Ingoburritos he's regretting his cockiness now.
It's a shame Versoza has burned every bridge with Main Maxx; nobody in PWR knows the Apocalypse as intimately as the Ilokano Big Rocket does, dating all the way back to the two super heavyweights' infamous All Out War match over a year ago. He's on his own in mapping a strategy to save his PHX gold, and this will literally be his baptism of fire in showing he can stand on his own without the Royal Flush to back him up.
What do you think of this PHX Championship match, Revo-Nation? Will the Bulacan Babe Magnet hold on to his prized championship, or will the Apocalypse finally overcome his many failed attempts to become a champion?
Let us know in the comments, and we'll see you at PWR Live: Mainit.
