The Grapevine (2/28/17): The Ultimate Deletion

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

We have some important news on a few hot free agents:

    • The (Broken) Hardys are officially done with TNA, and look to be signing with the WWE. Matt officially announced their departure on his Twitter account. Although they had agreed to a new deal with the company as early as last December, they did not get the actual contracts until a few weeks ago. This delay, plus new stipulations involving bookings in outside promotions and how TNA wants to approve them and keep 10% of the earnings, as well as possible loss of creative control discouraged them from taking the new contracts.

While a WWE deal may not be finalized yet, it can be said that they're looking to snatch them up. The Hardys have told other promoters that they can't commit to dates after May if only because they're not yet sure what they're doing around that time. For anyone speculating on a WrestleMania appearance, that weekend they're booked against the Young Bucks for Ring of Honor's Supercard of Honor XI on April 1 75 minutes away from Orlando. We say: This may be it. Although we're not too sure signing with WWE is a good idea for what the Hardys want to do, at this point you have to feel optimistic that the Connecticut Brain Trust would go along with what's worked for Matt and Jeff. After all, letting the New Day do its thing worked well for the team, and this is no different. Our bigger concern is that dumping them on RAW is going to overexpose them, because nobody escapes the darkness of RAW. Not even the aforementioned New Day.

    • Drew Galloway is also officially done with TNA. Like the Hardys, he also agreed to a new deal that would establish him further as a top star under the new direction, but TNA did not attempt to finalize it until recently. Right now Drew is still the Impact Grand Champion. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: SmackDown needs more bodies, so we say bring him back home to the blue brand!

    • Independent female wrestlers are being contacted again for Triple H's planned women's tournament. The plans were put on hold after the WWE did the United Kingdom Championship Tournament first. (Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter)

We say: Finally—is this also Crystal's time to shine on the world stage?
