WWE reports that Hall of Famer George "The Animal" Steele (real name: James Myers) has passed away due to kidney failure. He was 79 years old.
Best known for his fondness of chewing up turnbuckles, his unique hirsute look, and his iconic feud with "Macho Man" Randy Savage, Steele had reportedly been in and out of hospice care over the past ten months. While details are lean, he had endured complications from Crohn's disease, which triggered his retirement in 1998.
Steele was last seen on WWE programming in 2010, where he appeared on an "old school" edition of RAW with other WWE legends.
From all of us at the Smark Henry offices, we extend our sympathy and condolences to the Steele family.
