The Grapevine (1/10/17): The Omega Protocol

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

Finally, your post-Wrestle Kingdom 11 speculation bag:

    • There doesn't seem to be anything to the rumors that Kenny Omega is jumping ship from NJPW. The usual post-Wrestle Kingdom rumors centered around him especially after a heartbreaking loss to Kazuchika Okada in the main event that saw him announce that he was taking a break from the promotion to "reassess his future in Japan." Omega's contract is reportedly up on the 31st, which also eliminates any possibility that he will be appearing at Royal Rumble on the 29th. While Dave Meltzer says that it's not 100% sure, some people believe he's already re-signed with NJPW and should be back in time for the annual New Japan Cup. Everything he's saying on social media is most likely Kenny messing with people. (Source: F4WOnline)

We say: Sounds about right. Kenny has gone on record saying he doesn't really want to go to WWE, and it would be a huge departure from his words to turn back on that self-promise. John Cena just likes to mess with people as well, so we wouldn't really trust anything he says, especially after nothing happened when he posted about CM Punk on his Instagram account. We just think that Kenny wants to rest up; who wouldn't, after taking those bumps he took?

    • NJPW is restructuring their contracts to become multi-year deals. The company had traditionally given all of their employees one-year contracts that they just kept renewing every year, but with WWE on the hunt snatching up any good talent they can get their hands on, it was a necessary move. We say: We're more intrigued by the fact that it took them a year after their greatest raid to do this. Yes, they never really had a reason to feel threatened until Triple H started signing their talents, but did they really sit on their hands until there were rumors of Kenny Omega's moving?
