The Grapevine (12/2/16): Would You Like Some Hot Indies?

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

Do you want to watch indy wrestling on the WWE Network?

    • It looks like the rumored indy wrestling push on the WWE Network is finally happening. Vince McMahon reportedly wants "hot indies" on the Network, which will most likely upgrade to a tiered pricing system, with the extra content going for $14.99. What isn't sure yet is which promotions will be joining the network, but WWE did mention companies like ROH, EVOLVE, and PWG in their e-mail survey. (Source: F4WOnline, Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: Oh, this is gonna be huge if it does happen. It's most likely going to kill a lot of other services, like WWNLive and ROH's on-demand streaming (if they jump in) but the exposure they'll be trading for is not negligible at all. At face value, this is gonna be the good kind of monopoly.

    • RAW will be getting the Elimination Chamber PPV, and SmackDown will be getting Fastlane. There are now 18 planned PPV events in 2017, which means there seem to be two extra months not getting two brand-exclusive PPVs. Speculation is that those might be Extreme Rules and Money in the Bank. (Source: WON)

We say: The less PPVs we have to watch in a year, the better. And Money in the Bank doesn't really make sense as a brand-exclusive match/PPV, so we're cool with adding it to the Big Four pantheon.

    • Matt Sydal is expected to get out of Japanese prison on Monday, December 6. He was jailed on charges of drug possession since September after Japanese customs found liquid cannabis in one of his pipes. We don't know why he was released early yet, as the prison term was supposed to be five years. (Source: WON)

We say: Good for him, but a terribly stupid idea to once again lose a job thanks to drugs. Marijuana isn't bad, but do it right, man.
