The Grapevine (10/17/16): The Prodigal Daughter

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the weekend.

We have some dirt on Mickie James in NXT:

    • It's possible that Mickie James was tapped for the match with Asuka at NXT Takeover: Toronto because Trish Stratus is pregnant again. Rumors went around that WWE planned to do something with Trish this year, but those plans got changed because of her pregnancy. As of now, Mickie is working the one match with Asuka like the Jushin Thunder Liger deal at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn last year, but it's possible that they can bring her in for more in the future. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: At this point, Mickie might be the better veteran investment. Trish hasn't wrestled in so long due to her retirement, and Mickie's still active, so even if Mickie isn't the wrestler she used to be, Asuka would still get a better match out of her. The right things happened here.

    • TNA owes its creditors at least $3.4 million. That's only the debt to Aroluxe, Anthem (the newest buyer of part of TNA's video library), and MCC Acquisitions. It doesn't include the debt to Billy Corgan or Audience of One Productions. Jeremy Borash is also denying that all these reports are true. (Source: F4WOnline)

We say: This doesn't look good, especially now that potential buyers are backing out from saving the company from bankruptcy. And regarding Borash's denials, why would anyone come up with these rumors if there wasn't even an inkling of truth to them?
