    The Grapevine (9/2/16): FRIENDSHIP. OVER.

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

A big wrestling friend breakup apparently just happened:

    • Popular wrestling best friends CM Punk and Colt Cabana are apparently no longer friends. According to a noted MMA and wrestling reporter, Colt reportedly attended an episode of RAW and went backstage to take photos, and Punk felt that this would put their case against WWE's Dr. Chris Amann in jeopardy. Punk apparently has a history of going off the rails as he also reportedly ended his friendship with former WWE star Hornswoggle after the latter asked him for a phone number of a mutual friend; he felt that Swoggle used their friendship for a phone number. We say: This might be the most gossipy news we've ever run, but Punk and Colt's friendship is one of the more important relationships in modern pro wrestling, and for it to collapse is huge news. We just hope that Punk isn't as petty as this news might sound... although after following him for a while on Twitter, we tend to believe that he is.

    • Daniel Bryan and Miz's argument on last week's Talking Smack apparently went further than WWE expected. It was scripted to be an argument, but they didn't know it was going to go that far. Bryan's contract also expires in 2018, as it was frozen up until he was assigned to be the SmackDown General Manager. (Source: WON, PWInsider, ESPN)

We say: Who would've thought that letting wrestlers cut unscripted promos would turn out for the better?

    • The Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton rematch is happening on a WWE live event instead of at the Clash of Champions PPV because he would be paid much cheaper for a house show. The reasoning was that if they were going to do his usual squash, he should be paid less. WWE simply asked Brock to work the house show; Brock apparently chooses his opponents based on who the best wrestler on the roster is and who would make the most money that night. (Source: WON)

We say: That makes sense, sure. Or why not just ask him to work a longer match on a PPV?
