    The Grapevine (9/15/16): Cruiserweight Crowning

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

Today is the finale of the inaugural Cruiserweight Classic, and we hope against hope that this rumor is true:

    • There's word going around that TJ Perkins could be winning the entire WWE Cruiserweight Classic. No, this is not patriotic wishful thinking, it's actually a rumor. On another note, WWE officials have really been impressed with Jack Gallagher. (Source: WrestlingInc)

    • Katsuyori Shibata has been diagnosed with a cervical spine injury, and might possibly have to miss Destruction in Tokyo. He's scheduled to defend the NEVER Openweight Championship against Bobby Fish at the event on Saturday, and if he can't make it, he'll have to forfeit the championship. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: Sounds like Shibata's hard-hitting style has finally caught up to him. We wish one of the best NJPW wrestlers well in his recovery.

    • Alberto El Patron has met with AAA this week. According to AAA owner Dorian Roldan, he's confident that he'll be able to sign El Patron over CMLL. Apparently, Alberto had more issues with Lucha Underground and how he was used in the show. On an unrelated note, Paige was with Alberto in all his meetings. (Source: WrestlingInc)

We say: Regardless of who El Patron has issues with, you have to remember that this is still the same company that he walked out on to re-sign with WWE last year, and it's still the same company that had to cancel one of their big events. We don't think this is a good idea, boss.

Let us know what you think of today's news in the comments!
