The Grapevine (8/25/16): The Plot Thickens

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

Here's your midweek update on the whole Orton/Lesnar situation:

    • The finish for the SummerSlam match was still being discussed an hour before they went to the ring. It was a meeting about the finish, specifically, between Triple H, Paul Heyman, Mark Carrano, and Brock Lesnar. No word on whether Orton was part of the meeting. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: This still sounds like a pretty bad idea whichever angle you want to look at it. Hopefully Orton was a part of the meeting, because if not that looks like a bit of bad faith.

    • Bayley was not supposed to challenge for the WWE Women's Championship on RAW right away, but it seems as though Sasha's injury changed those plans. That said, Sasha Banks will not need any surgery, just the time off. (Source: Lords of Pain)

We say: Honestly, if anyone else challenged for the championship, the fans would riot. It was the perfect time to debut Bayley and start her journey for the title.

    • For those wondering, the Dudley Boyz' retirement on RAW was real. They had recently signed new deals around a week ago, but they apparently decided to change their minds and leave instead. They're now free agents, and will probably not wrestle much as they're running their Team 3D Wrestling Academy in Florida. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: We wonder why they suddenly left, but they probably could use the break after all these years. It was a solid last run for them, putting over many of the younger teams. Thanks for everything, Dudleys.
