    WWE RAW (7/25/16): New Directions

With SmackDown's Dean Ambrose retaining the WWE Championship at Battleground, RAW is left without a top champion.

Until this Monday, when Commissioner Stephanie McMahon introduced the WWE Universal Championship! The first-ever champion will be crowned at SummerSlam.

    New contenders

Seth Rollins was named the first contender for the new title.

Two Fatal 4-Way matches determined his opponent at SummerSlam.
    • Finn Balor survived the first one, defeating Rusev, Sheamus, and Kevin Owens.
    • The second four-way was won by Roman Reigns, beating Chris Jericho, Sami Zayn, and Cesaro.
Then, at the main event, Balor sealed his ticket to SummerSlam by defeating Reigns!

    New champion

For the second night in a row, Sasha Banks made Charlotte tap out. Only this Monday on RAW, she became champion.

Banks won the WWE Women's Title in a grueling back-and-forth match-up. Sasha took care of the Dana Brooke problem by smartly having her ejected from ringside by the referee!

One Bank Statement later, the Boss is the champ!

    New Day, old nemesis

The New Day celebrated their 337th day as WWE Tag Team Champions. They made audience member Sonny Boy as an honorary member. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson then came out to ruin their party.

    New faces, new challenges

Several NXT call-ups made their presence felt in the post-Draft RAW.

    - Nia Jax made her RAW debut, defeating Britt Baker
    - Neville made his return, defeating Curtis Axel
    - Enzo and Big Cass defeated Primo and Epico of the Shining Stars
    - Braun Strowman, fresh from the split with the Wyatt Family, made quick work of local wrestler James Ellsworth
