The Grapevine (7/22/16): The Beast Gets A Pass

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

We apologize for the long absence though, it's been a crazy week:

    • Brock Lesnar is not getting suspended by the WWE for failing two USADA drug tests for UFC 200.  Lesnar has reportedly tested positive for Clomiphene, an estrogen blocker drug bodybuilders use when they're getting off steroids. Despite not getting suspended, Lesnar was supposed to be RAW's #1 pick in the Draft, and he ended up slipping to #8 as Rollins became the first overall pick. (Source: F4WOnline)

We say: We'd just like to point out how interesting it is for the WWE to be highly inconsistent and selective with their Wellness Policy. In theory, shouldn't it be concerned with all drug tests, not just those of the WWE? Billy Gunn was fired for failing a drug test after a powerlifting competition, Roman Reigns was suspended for 30 days (despite keeping his spot in the Battleground main event) so why does Lesnar get a pass? (That's a rhetorical question, by the way.)

    • Bayley might not be Sasha Banks's mystery partner at Battleground. Bayley, who was left out of the WWE Draft, is being rumored for that spot, but word also says that new NXT callups aren't happening until September at the very least. Bayley is reportedly pegged for that batch of promotions, not this one. (Source: WON)

We say: Then who's going to fill the spot? ...NIA JAX?

    • Rhyno and Curt Hawkins are reportedly returning to the main roster. Rhyno, as everyone knows, has been working down in NXT, while Hawkins had been working the indies under his real name since his release in 2014. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: Not sure how we feel about this. We believe Rhyno better serves the gutted NXT brand right now, while despite being a better wrestler than Zack Ryder, only a few will remember Curt Hawkins. Ryder has at least two options for a tag team, though.
