#ThemeSongTuesday (4/5/16): The King of Strong Style II

Dammit. We thought we’d be ready. We thought four months was more than enough time to prepare ourselves for what we experienced at NXT Takeover: Dallas.

News of Shinsuke Nakamura leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling for WWE crawled up the Grapevine early January, with the announcement of his debut match against Sami Zayn being made a few months later. As of this #ThemeSongTuesday, two men who faced off at Wrestle Kingdom 10 just four months ago have made their mark on WWE’s main and developmental rosters. I’m sorry, A.J. Styles, but “surreal” is no longer exclusively synonymous with your Royal Rumble debut. The crown now belongs to The King of Strong Style.

Subconscious” is a tough theme to follow. After nearly eight years of serving as Nakamura’s entrance music in NJPW, Julia Claris’ riff-driven composition has been put to rest. In its place, we get “The Rising Sun”, from CFO$.

Five seconds into this theme and already the somber violin melody is compared to both the “Imperial March” from Star Wars and Kanye West’s “Hell of a Life”. Strings pick up to a heart-racing build shortly after, almost as if “The Rising Sun” was taken straight from the final monologue of an anime’s main antagonist or an RPG’s final boss. Similar to “Subconscious”, our mortal senses are given a 20-second window before revealing the full spectacle that is Shinsuke Nakamura.

Right before the drop hits, we’re given our final warning: silence. CFO$ gives us this brief moment to catch our breath before it’s taken away moments later by a mix of haunting strings, descending upon us as if we’re traveling through a wormhole to Nakamura’s own dimension—where everyone is made of fine leather, knees to the face, and sex. For those few seconds, we see a glimpse of the man responsible for the spiritual experience a Shinsuke Nakamura match entails.

When his music hits full blast, he unleashes himself to the world and transports every fiber of being around him to his own reality. A blend of modern electronic beats and strings fit for a Final Fantasy score harmoniously join to represent a figure who has bled nothing but passion for professional wrestling for as long as most freshman high-schoolers have been alive.

The King of Strong Style comes to WWE having already fought some of their best (Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, and Kevin Owens to name a few), so what we’re hearing isn’t Shinsuke Nakamura’s second theme. The man can constantly evolve and learn while never losing what gives the name Shinsuke Nakamura the definition of swag. CFO$ nailed this theme, since “The Rising Sun” doesn’t feel like Shinsuke Nakamura’s second theme, but the debut theme of his next form.

What do you think of Nakamura’s first WWE theme? Think it surpasses “Subconscious”? Don’t forget to let us know what you think in the comments below!

It's a good thing, too, since his childhood consisted mostly of watching professional wrestling and listening to his parents on the radio. He's only recently rekindled his love for the WWE, and has been trying to make up for missing out on everything post-WrestleMania XX by praying to Seth Rollins thrice a day.
