The Grapevine (3/25/16): The King vs. The Best

Good morning, and welcome to the daily Grapevine! Here is where we round up all the rumors, hearsay and tidbits of news from the wild world of professional wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

Are we going to see a huge dream matchup this year?

    • You may have seen Chris Jericho interacting with Shinsuke Nakamura lately on Twitter—that may be because they're planning a big Jericho/Nakamura match in Japan later this year. WWE has two shows in Sumo Hall, and although plans are not yet finalized for another Beast in the East-style Network exclusive, the Twitter beef is apparently part of early seed-planting for that matchup. We say: TAKE ALL OUR MONEY. EVEN THE MONEY WE'VE YET TO EARN. (Could this be the best late-career Jericho run yet? Thanks, DDP Yoga!)

    • WWE might be about to get sued over royalties from the Network. It's a class-action lawsuit brewing, meaning it's a suit with multiple plaintiffs seeking some sort of compensation. The suit will revolve around the Network reducing the importance and potential revenues of DVDs and Blu-Rays, causing royalties to drop, and an attempt to secure royalties from Network streaming. Many former WWE talents are reportedly aware of the suit and are planning on getting involved. (Source: WON)

We say: This feels like the issues streaming services like Spotify have been finding themselves in lately, but it's interesting to note that despite changing the game when it comes to online video on-demand, WWE is apparently behind everyone when it comes to royalties. Needless to say, they should start adopting a per-play pay scheme.

    • If you're baffled by the New Day inducting the Fabulous Freebirds, it's apparently because Michael Hayes is a big fan of the team. The current babyface push the New Day is experiencing is because of this induction, and might apparently be the big payoff for the WWE Tag Team Championship match at WrestleMania versus the League of Nations. Buddy Roberts Jr. and former WWE star Jesse (Terry Gordy's son) will be receiving the induction for their late fathers. (Source: WON)

We say: That's... amazing. Great for the New Day, then, but on the flip side, this is absolutely terrible news for the League of Nations. Not once have they been made to look truly strong in this feud.

What do you think? Are you excited for Jericho/Nakamura? Let us know what you think in the comments!
