The Grapevine (2/4/16): Shaping Up WrestleMania

Good morning everyone, and welcome to the Grapevine! This is our daily post rounding up all the interesting rumors from the wild, wild world of pro wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

A lot of swirling WrestleMania 32 rumors today:

    • To nobody's utter surprise, Roman Reigns is pretty much set to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 32. It's the final for real for real championship moment they've been wanting to give him; the resulting title reign would be of a significant length. Triple H winning the championship at Royal Rumble is part of the plan. (Source: WON)

We say: The thing with this is most fans have already accepted that this would be the fate of the championship, so the only thing left for WWE to do is to actually get behind Reigns in such a way as to make the fans really embrace him. They had a real good thing going with the way he won the championship back in December, and how he acted soon after; unfortunately, for some reason they had him regress. The biggest lesson to learn here is that he's no use being John Cena when everyone already knows he works better as a Steve Austin. If you're not gonna give us Dean Ambrose vs. Triple H (which channels this spirit better because of the way Dean just is) then make this happen. It's not so hard. Let the kids growing up get behind someone with a rougher edge.

    • Vince McMahon wants Shawn Michaels to have a special role at WrestleMania. After it surfaced that he wanted Shawn to work the Royal Rumble match this year, he's now trying to get him to at least get involved in the Roman Reigns/Triple H program. It would be special for him to be part of a WrestleMania in Texas, his home state. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: We don't see a problem with this. Mania needs (and usually gets) all the stars it can use, and adding him to the title match would make it even bigger.

    • On that note, Batista turned down a role at WrestleMania. He was visiting at the recent SmackDown tapings in Tampa, where he lives, and Vince pitched him an appearance at the Mania. He reportedly turned down the offer because he did not want to appear for the sake of appearing, and wants a last run with some meaning. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: We can't say we disagree with the man. It's a lot better than Chris Jericho, who comes back so much just to put people over that people ever forget he was once a big deal.

    • We reported yesterday that the plans for the Divas Championship at WrestleMania 32 look like Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks, but apparently it could be a triple threat between Charlotte, Sasha Banks, and Becky Lynch. As reported, Brie Bella vs. Charlotte is only scheduled to last until Fastlane. It's possible that the triple threat is set up through a #1 contender's match between Sasha and Becky sometime soon. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: This sounds even better. The Divas match is gonna be lit.

What do you think? Who needs to be in the WrestleMania main event? What would you want Shawn Michaels to do on the show? Let us know what you think in the comments!
