The Grapevine (2/25/16): A Golden Cruiserweight

Good morning, Henrinites, and welcome to the Grapevine! This is where we round up the most interesting rumors and news happening in the wild world of wrestling that you may have missed over the night.

We've got an update with regards to the rumors of a brand split in the WWE, as well as a couple others:

    • An upcoming episode of Monday Night RAW was being advertised under another name. The May 23rd show in Baltimore was originally being advertised as WWE vs. RAW on Ticketmaster, instead of the usual Monday Night RAW label. This is the episode that takes place after Extreme Rules, which now happens in May instead of being the first PPV after WrestleMania. (Source: Cageside Seats)

We say: That's a very interesting name, as it implies that RAW and WWE are going to be the two sides going against each other here. With the stipulation that Shane McMahon gets control of RAW if he beats the Undertaker at WrestleMania, we have an early idea of which side is which. Now they just need to fill out the rosters. Bring that brand split on.

    • Tyson Kidd may be the next guy to hang up his boots. Coming off Daniel Bryan's retirement, it is now being rumored that Tyson Kidd is in a similar situation. While Kidd remains optimistic about recovering from his neck injury, there are rumors that WWE management is very hesistant to clear him. As of earlier this month, no decision has been made on whether Kidd can resume wrestling. He has been out of the ring since the middle of 2015. (Source: Daily Wrestling News)

We say: Man, that really sucks. Kidd was in the middle of a very entertaining tag team run with Cesaro when he got injured, and the idea of never seeing him again in the ring is depressing.

    • Could freelancer Kota Ibushi be one of the big names in WWE's Global Cruiserweight Series? Ibushi, who recently announced that he will not be renewing his dual contract with NJPW and DDT, recently talked with Tokyo Sports about his future. Apparently, Shinsuke Nakamura has told Ibushi to "get in touch" if he ever wanted to come to the WWE, and that he has already recommended that the WWE try to get Ibushi for the tournament. (Source: Cageside Seats)

We say: With Ibushi's freelancer status, this is definitely in the realm of possibility, and it would be huge if the WWE got to feature him in this special tournament. Ibushi following AJ Styles, Nakamura, Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows (assuming they show up soon) in making an appearance on WWE programming? Bizarre, but that's the world we live in right now.

What do you think, Henrinites? Could Ibushi show up in the Global Cruiserweight Series? Will we see Tyson Kidd wrestle in a WWE ring again? How would you want the roster to be divided in case a brand split happens? Let us know in the comments section below!
