The Grapevine (2/17/16): We're Afraid We've Got Some Bad News, Again

Good morning everyone, and welcome to the Grapevine! This is our daily post rounding up all the interesting rumors from the wild, wild world of pro wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

There is talk of yet another major WWE star leaving the company:

    • King Barrett is apparently not renewing his contract when it expires in June. Last year's King of the Ring winner and the League of Nations member, who's been out of action recently due to a nerve injury in his neck, is reportedly not happy with his spot in the company. More on this when we get updates. (Source: Pro Wrestling Sheet)

We say: This could be either of two things: it's real and Barrett is truly disgruntled, or he's playing the game other wrestlers have been playing and using the dirtsheets as leverage for something better, especially at a time when WWE is actively locking down anyone who could potentially help out their competitors. All the same, we feel like Barrett doesn't have that much of a leg to stand on considering his entire WWE career has been marred by injuries and stalls. We are kind of excited at the thought of Barrett working in places such as Revolution Pro in the UK (which has a great working partnership with a lot of other companies such as NJPW), EVOLVE (which won't feel like leaving as it's preparing to partner with the WWE), or even New Japan itself. Wouldn't you like to see Barrett tear it up in the NEVER Openweight or the IWGP Intercontinental title scenes?

    • Mark Henry suffered an injury in his match last night on RAW, but there is no official update on what it is yet. The match saw Big E, Henry's opponent, scoop him up for his Big Ending finisher, but Henry pushed off his shoulders and fell to the mat for the pinfall, leading to speculation that he might have injured his rib in the match. We say: Oh, boy. Not another injury for this site's spirit animal. Perhaps it's already time to retire?

    • Although WWE is planning Finn Balor to be the face of NXT, he could still possibly get called up to the main roster this year. Samoa Joe is also being planned to get called up, but if he wins the NXT Championship at TakeOver: Dallas, those plans will have to be put on hold for the foreseeable future. (Source: F4WOnline)

We say: With Balor out due to a foot injury, the obvious choice might have to be Joe winning the title in April, unless Finn can magically heal himself before then. Either way, a change needs to be made to Finn's persona.

What do you think? Do you want the King to stay, or do you want to see him somewhere else? Let us know what you think in the comments!
